Abraham's Story

Abraham B. McRae was born to the late John Henry McRae and the late Jessie Mae McRae April 25, 1945. He was educated in the Valdosta City School System. His experiences went from Magnolia Elementary, Lomax Junior High and Pinevale High School. He furthered his education while attending Valdosta Technical College and Valdosta State University.

Abraham served 3 years in the United States Army with the classification of (SP5)P. He was employed at the Valdosta Housing Authority. He was later employed at Georgia Power as a Field Service Representative for 42 years. He was dedicated to his job.

He was a member of Bethel CME, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, a Trustee and Usher. He also sang in the R.C.J. Gospel Choir and worked with the youth choir and the C.Y.F. dept. He was a very hard worker and really loved the church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers: Willie Clarence McRae, James Lester Williams, John R. McCray and Lonnie M. McCray; two brothers-in-law: Edgar Sampson Sr. and Woodrow Harris, Jr.

Abraham leaves to mourn yet rejoice and give thanks for his life, a loving wife of 43 years, Mrs. Patricia A. McRae; their daughter: Abranna McRae; his loving grandchildren whom he adored: Amaya Herndon, Aaliayah McRae and Josiah McRae; two sisters: Emma L. Sampson and Bernice McRae; one brother: Eddie McRae (Hakim); three sisters-in-law: Eula McRae, Kathleen McCray Addison and Jean H. Greene; two brothers-in- law: Melvin Thomas and George Harris; nieces: Anita Jordan, Carolyn Sampson-Burgess (Warren, Jr.), Jean McCray Ashe, Robrette E. McRae, Michelle D. Greene, April McRae and Rebekah McRae; nephews: Edgar Sampson, Jr., Michael Thomas, William McCray, Willie J. Alderman, Gregory Sampson and Keith M. Sampson: great-nieces: Marquita, Michelle, Daphne and Clare; great nephews: Edgar, William, Warren, JaCare and Gregory; the Hezekiah Family; the Henderson Family; special family friend: Mrs. Betty Jo Williams; and a host of family and friends.

The Celebration of Life for the late Mr. Abraham B. McRae will be Monday, March 5, 2018, 11:00 a.m., from the sanctuary of the Bethel CME Church, located 702 Johnson Street, Valdosta, GA.
Rev. Ellis C. Jackson is the pastor.
Interment will follow in the Southview Cemetery.
Public viewing will be Sunday, March 4, 2018, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Godfrey Funeral Home. Along with flowers, special donations can also be made to the Langdale Hospice House, in loving memory of Mr. Abraham B. McRae.
