Alfred Lloyd Sampson, Sr., son of the late Prescott and Pinkie Baker Sampson, was born July 20, 1941 in Valdosta and died in Atlanta on September 22, 2017. Alfred was predeceased by both parents and seven siblings: Marjorie Varn, Billy Sampson, Almarine Hill, Mildred Emanuel, Orange Sampson, Delores Dasher, and Betty Prophet.
Alfred was a 1959 graduate of Pinevale High School where he was a member of the Marching Band and celebrated as an outstanding saxophone player who was offered a scholarship at Florida A & M. Alfred was drafted into the Army and served as a Medic in Vietnam and Japan and was honorably discharged. Alfred made professional musical recordings in New York City, worked several years for the Internal Revenue Service in Chicago and Atlanta, and operated a private tax preparation business in Atlanta.
Alfred is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Delphina Delores McClain of Brooklyn, NY, a son, Alfred Lloyd Sampson, Jr. of Manhattan, NY, a daughter, Lamia Sabrina Sampson of Brooklyn, NY, and will forever be cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and bereaving friends.
Memorial Services for Mr. Sampson will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 1:00 P.M. at the Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 501 Holiday Street, Valdosta, Georgia.
Final rites were entrusted to Harrington Funeral Home Inc.
