Bertha's Story

Mrs. Bertha H. Barton, 95 of Adel, Georgia passed away April 15, 2017 at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, Georgia. She was born in Bartow, Georgia on March 28, 1922 to the late John Gideon Harrell and Mary Alice Jones Harrell. Mrs. Barton lived most of her life in Cook County where she was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

She is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law: Jim Barton of Panama City, FL, Bob and Cindy Barton of Placida, FL and Terry Barton of Adel; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Arvil Stracener of Hahira, GA; seven grandchildren: Tilleana and Robby Layne, Leslie Needham, all of Panama City, Stephen Campbell of Troy, NC, Ashley Campbell of Livermore, CA, Sonya Vaughn Higgins of Ray City, GA, A.J. and Rachel Stracener, Amelia Stracener and Matt Hall, all of Hahira; fourteen great-grandchildren: Alyssa Layne, Adam Layne, Haleigh Layne, Jewell Pyatt, all of Panama City,FL, Kadin Campbell of Troy, NC, Matthew and Jessie Vaughn of Ray City, Dacey Stracener, Mason Stracener and Adalyn Stracener, all of Hahira, Lilly and Alanna Hall of Ray City, Brantley Stracener, Calli Hall and Matthew Hall, all of Hahira; two great-great-grandchildren; and a special nephew and niece, Bill and Linda Barton of Adel. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Mrs. Barton was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Barton; eight siblings; and a daughter-in-law, Pat Needham.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening April 18, 2017 from 6 to 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home South, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave. in Adel. The funeral service will be held Wednesday April 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Antioch United Methodist Church with Rev. Christy Bandy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
