Calvin Roswell Marshall

March 30, 1953 - November 27, 2018

Calvin Roswell Marshall Mr. Calvin Roswell Marshall, the son of Bertha Marshall and Earl Carter, was born on March 30, 1953 in Valdosta, Georgia. Calvin matriculated through the public schools of Lowndes County and graduated from Lowndes High School in 1971. After graduation, he attended Valdosta Technical College (Wiregrass Technical College) and earned a degree in Drafting and Design.
Calvin was raised and nurtured in a Christian home where he was taught to love and respect others, but above all, to love the Lord. In 1965 he joined Mt. Vienna African Methodist Episcopal Church. For his more than fifty years of membership, at different intervals, he served as Class Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and Trustee. He also assisted in remodeling the sanctuary and later drew the plans and built the Martha Daniels Fellowship Hall. Calvin lived what he was taught and believed, and this was evident by what he quietly did for the church and fellowman.
On August 9, 1975, he was joined in marriage to the former Ella Anderson and to this union two sons were born. After more than nineteen years of marriage, Ella transitioned, and he was left to raise two young children. Six years later on May 13, 2000, Calvin was united in marriage to the former Louel Thomas. God blessed Calvin with another helpmate who loved him dearly and was a blessing to him, his children and eventually grandchildren.
It was evident that Calvin was destined to be successful businessman. His experience in the workforce begin at Winn Dixie at Five Points. During his senior year in high school , he became involved in animal husbandry where he earned his first profit. He later said, "After selling my stock and earning so much money, it felt pretty good." Calvin went on to work at Owen-Illinois (Packaging Corporation of America) after graduating from Val-Tech. For more than forty-four years, he worked diligently as a Maintenance Superintendent and later Maintenance Engineer. He was also a licensed contractor who built structurally-sound homes and buildings for individuals in and around Lowndes County.
Calvin traveled extensively throughout Europe and continental United State in his work capacity. He was a well-rounded person who was engaged in all aspects of his community. He loved old Westerns and was an avid football fan and supporter of the Lowndes High Vikings. His past membership included Leadership Lowndes and the Val-Tech Board of Directors. He was a "bleacher coach" and a long -time member of Lowndes Touchdown Club.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, son and brother who loved his family and friends unconditionally. His life's journey came to an end on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta , Georgia. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Willie B. Marshall and Leatha and Frank Miller.
Calvin leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife, Louel Marshall; three sons, Calvin Marshall, Jr. (Arkeshia), Valdosta, GA, Benjamin Marshall (Chanda) of Newan, GA and Roy D. I am deeply saddened to hear about Calvin passing. I worked with him for several years at PCA as a contractor. Calvin and I often joked and shared many great conversations through our work. He was always wonderful to be around, even during times of stress. I will always remember him fondly, as he was a magnificent person.

Warmest regards,

So sorry to learn of Calvin’s passing. I enjoyed working with him during my tenure as Valdosta Tech’s Executive Vice President. He was an avid spokesperson for technical education and took very seriously his responsibility as a member of the VTC Board of Directors.

We all will miss him.

My prayers are with you in the day to come.

Calvin and I were best of friends growing up. We both started our working careers at Winn Dixie Grocery store in 1971 and remained friends over the years. We purchased our first cars at the same time and we shared many childhood adventures together. I will truly miss this great man and friend. My prayers to the family . Calvin's first best friend.....

I had the privilege to work with Calvin when he first joined Owens-Illinois in the engineering staff. We became good friends as well as working partners. I feel fortunate to have spent some time with Calvin earlier this year. He will be missed.
