Deloris's Story

Deloris Adams Thomas transitioned from rest to reward on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 with her family.
Others have described Deloris as a beautiful soul both inside and out. She exhibited those characteristics in every endeavor in which she participated. Known for her stylish attire, articulate speech and inspiring demeanor, she became a role model upon her return home to teach. In 1960, she married Frank Thomas, a fellow teacher. To their union were born two daughters, Valerie Michelle Thomas and Tenjurie Valencia Thomas. Although married, she continued to attend her home church Monument Missionary Baptist Church. Eventually, she joined her husband's church, Bethel AME Church where she served in numerous positions.
She was a member of Kappa Eta Omega Chapter Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her loving husband and best friend of 56 years, Frank L. Thomas; two adoring daughters, Attorney Valerie Thomas Bryant (Darryl) and Tenjurie Thomas; three brothers, Deacon James Hubert Adams (Mattie) Valdosta,GA; Dr. Russell Lowell Adams (Eleanor) Suitland, MD; and Deacon Franklin Adams (the late Eddie Ruth Adams) Baltimore, MD; two sisters-in-law,Rebecca Thomas Lee and Ora Lee Thomas; three grandchildren, Dedrek Louis Bryant, Valecia Michaela Bryant, and Vanay Markita Bryant; two first-cousins, Dr. Mildred Ponder-Stennis and Wallace Warren; two special cousins, Ella Mobley and Dorothy Denson; two special friends, Laura Chisholm and Beurena H. Wakefield; two goddaughters, Attorney Jocelyn Chisholm Carter and Dionne Phillips; and special former student, Yolanda Thompson. She also leaves a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, former students and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2017, at 3 P.M. at Bethel AME Church. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Public viewing: Friday, April 21, 2017, 1:00 - 8:00 PM and Saturday, April 22, 10:00 AM - 8:00 PM The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-7PM at the funeral home.
