Mr. Derry O'Quinn, 76, of Adel, Georgia and Suwannee, Florida, passed away Monday February 12, 2018 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. He was born in Adel on April 17, 1941 to Paul McCullough O'Quinn and Delilah Mae Griffin O'Quinn. Although living most of his life in Cook County, he also had residence in Suwannee, Florida where he served five terms on the Suwannee Water Commission, was a past president of the Suwannee Chamber of Commerce and was named the 2015 Citizen of the Year for the Suwannee Chamber of Commerce. Mr. O'Quinn was a founding member of the Cook County Jaycees and a member of Massee Baptist Church in Cook County. He served in the Army National Guard and had many work avenues during his life which included: retired cable splicer and manager with General Telephone Company, owned his own welding and crane operation companies, farmer, long-haul truck driver and restaurant manager.
Mr. O'Quinn is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Paula and Jackie Raley of Adel; a "sister-at-heart," Portia Best of Adel; his nephews: Blair Barker of Adel, Heath Barker of Princeton, West Virginia, Jim Crawford of Adel, Trey Crawford and Easton Crawford of Cecil, Georgia; nieces: Jane Crawford of Atlanta, Leigh Crawford of Adel, Nicole Crawford of Cecil and Elle Crawford of Moultrie, Georgia; a special friend, D.J. Anderson of Naylor, Georgia; many cousins; and his loving companion, Beau. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Elizabeth Harrelson.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 6 to 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home South, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service will take place Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 2 PM at Massee Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Stinson and Rev. Justin Miliken officiating and Mr. Jackie Raley providing the eulogy.
