Egon Frederick Schartel passed away peacefully Friday February 16, 2018 surrounded by loving family in Valdosta, Georgia.
Egon was born September 18, 1922 in Vienna, Austria. His family moved to New York City and then Northern New Jersey. Later he and his wife Marie lived in Alpine, New Jersey where they raised their family. For many years he was employed as a film editor at Consolidated Film Industries of Fort Lee, New Jersey. After retirement, they moved to Brunswick, Maine- a state they both loved and had spent much vacation time in, camping and exploring dirt roads.Marie predeceased him in 1991.
Egon later met and married Fay Morrow. Together they traveled here and abroad, gardened, and picked many blueberries, dividing their time between Brunswick and Valdosta. They both enjoyed many church activities, as members of the congregations of Church of Christ in Brunswick and Central Avenue Church of Christ in Valdosta. Egon also was an avid book collector along with rocks, minerals and stamps.He was a member of the Valdosta Stamp Club.
Egon is survived by his wife Fay and her daughters Phoebe (husband Kevin) and Ann (husband Bill). Additionally, Egon is survived by sons Charles (wife Donna), Peter (wife Jonne), and daughter Carol (husband Mark). He has 8 beloved grandchildren along with 10 great grandchildren.
