Elizabeth "Betty"'s Story
Elizabeth Betty Asbill Johnson, 88, of Macon, died peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2018. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 11:00 AM, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, 753 College St. in Macon with the Reverend Bryan Hinson officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, 1301 Riverside Dr. main gate entrance.
Betty was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 11, 1929. In 1941, she and her mother moved to Macon where she lived most of her life. She graduated from A.L. Miller High School for Girls in 1947 where she was a majorette in the Lanier High School Marching Band. In 1949 she graduated from secretarial school. She married at St. Pauls Episcopal Church in 1950 and raised four children, Lee, Mark, Peggy and David. In 1977 she moved to Valdosta, Georgia where she lived for almost 20 years before moving to Augusta, Georgia, then to Greenville, South Carolina. She moved back to Macon in 2012 and resided at John Wesley Villas. At the age of 63 Betty fulfilled a lifelong dream of graduating from nursing school when she became an LPN. She loved reading, especially mysteries. One of her favorite authors was Agatha Christie. She also loved everything British, especially afternoon tea and Queen Elizabeth II. She visited London on several occasions where she signed the guest book at Buckingham Palace. Betty could always find a bargain at yard sales and stores.
She is survived by her daughter, Lee Johnson and son-in-law, Maurice Solis of Valdosta; her daughter Peggy Johnson and partner, Nancy Nesser of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her son David Johnson of Gainesville, Georgia, her daughter-in-law, Gretchen Johnson of Greenville, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Anna Johnson of Salem, Oregon; Elli and Corey Johnson of Gainesville, Georgia and her precious cat, Baby.
She was predeceased by her beloved son, Mark Carlton Johnson; her former husband, Julius Carlton Scooter Johnson; her mother, Ruby Lucy Wilson Asbill Stirk of Macon and her father, John Pickens Asbill of Augusta, Georgia.
