Ernest's Story

Mr. Ernest Lee Mingo was born December 5, 1940 to the late George Mingo Sr. and Marie McClutcher Mingo of Homerville, Georgia. He received his formal education from the public school system of Homerville. As a young man, he left his hometown of Homerville and he moved to Jacksonville, Florida. He later moved to New York City where he resided for over 50 years. He was an established entrepreneur and his businesses were a success. He was a great father to his kids and he had a smile for everyone he met. As much love as he had for his family, he shared that love for sports as well. He loved basketball and his favorite team was the Cleveland Cavaliers and his favorite player was Lebron James. He was a caring man and God called him on Friday, June 30, 2017 at New York Presbyterian Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn, New York.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister: Alice Marie Mingo; three brothers: Jerry Mingo, George Mingo Jr., and Robert Lee Mingo.
He leaves behind a longtime companion: Doris McKoy Smith; his loving kids, four daughters: Ernestine Bolden, Constance Coleman Roman-Rivera (Gilberto), Maria Martin (Johnny), Patricia Tolbert; his sons: Ernest Mingo Jr., and Benjamin Hernandez; his brothers: Timothy Mingo (Katherine), Willie Mingo (Lessie), Donald Mingo (Carolyn), Joe Louis Mingo (Barbara); his sisters: Lannie Gamble, Viola Mingo (Pete), Patricia Ann "Carolyn" Cooper (George); grandchildren: Myron Bolden (Crystal), Rokia Bolden, Edrica S. Bolden, Alexis S. Jacobs (Charles), Shaunee Roman, Chrissandra Roman-Rivera, Christie Martin, Jonathan Martin, Santonio Martin, Sheena Tolbert, Shalonda Bryant, Nicholas Bryant, Marley Mingo, Sanalya Mingo, Mackenzie Mingo; twenty-two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
