Evangelsit Merlene's Story
Evangelist Merlene Scurry was born November 30, 1948 in Valdosta, Georgia to the late Edker Brooklin and the late Francis Lee Brooklin. Evangelist Scurry accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior on June 22, 1979. She served faithfully in the ministry at Williams Temple COGIC for several years since 2007 as District Missionary of Greater Bainbridge District. She also was the President of the Hospitality Department in the South Georgia Second Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction for over 15 years. She was currently serving as a minister at Warren Temple Holiness Church.
Evangelist Scurry attended the Pinevale School System. She was a very sweet, passionate person, loving mother, wife, and friend.
On December 22, 2017, God decided to call her Home to take her rest and to be with Him.
She was preceded in death by her daughter: Machell D. Fead; sister: Maime Lee Williams; brothers-in-law: E.J. Scurry, Clarence Scurry, Jerome Scurry, and Jimmy Williams.
She leaves to cherish her memories of her life with her loving spouse of 44 years: Overseer Willie Lee Scurry; two daughters: Latonia (John) Powell, Melody ( Rev. Allen) Lane both of Valdosta, GA.; five sisters: Delores Chatman of Rome, GA., Arlene Morrison, Gwendolyn (Eugene) Clark, Mattie (Jerome) Fluitt, and Tammy Cooper all of Valdosta, GA.; three brothers: Jerome (Francine) Brooklin, Wesley (Cynthia) Brooklin, and Charles Brooklin all of Valdosta, GA.; brothers-in-law: Henry (Wanda) Scurry, and John Henry Fead; sisters-in-law: Ethel Mae (Alvin) Cotton, Dorothy Lee Henton, and Yvonne Garland, and Patricia Scurry; nine grandchildren: Lakisha Register, Latorya Scurry, Ebony Hunter, John A Berry Jr., Brandi Brooklin, Jasmine Powell, Sterling Marshall, Allen M. Lane III, Aaliyah Lane; special friends: Mamie Hawkins and Betty Campbell; and also a whole sweet host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, her Warren Temple Church Family, and friends.
