Mr. Harry Whiddon, 100, of Sparks, Georgia, passed away March 1, 2017. He was born on January 29, 1917 in the Spring Hill Community of what is now Cook County to his late parents, Duncan and Luella Lovett Whiddon. He worked as a farmer and served during World War II with the U.S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific Theater. He lived in Cook County most of his life where he was a member of Sparks United Methodist Church.

Mr. Whiddon is survived by his children: Sherrill Whiddon Napier and her husband Charles of Sparks, Van Whiddon and his wife Lana of Adel, and Cecelia Whiddon of Sparks; six grandchildren: Shaina Whiddon of Richmond Hill, GA, Baaer Whiddon of Colorado Springs, CO, Chaila Hutchinson of Savannah, GA, Phaydra Hunt of Greensboro, NC, Shane Massey of Sparks and Mia Luke of Tifton, GA; and four great-grandchildren: Van Davis Hutchinson, Lennon Hunt, Rachel Luke and Kate Luke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Laverne VanBrackle Whiddon; two sisters: Reba Kessler and Merle Sirmans; and a brother, Emerick Whiddon.

The Whiddon family will receive friends Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6 until 8 PM at Boone Funeral Home, 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave., in Adel. The funeral service will take place Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Boone Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Mays and Rev. Al Lewis officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Church Cemetery.
