James's Story

James William Ricks, 71, of Valdosta, GA, passed away, peacefully in his home on Thursday, November 30, 2017 from a recurring illness. Jimmy (Jim), was a native of Anniston, AL., and a graduate of Lowndes County HS, Class of 1966. Having enlisted in the US Marine Corp, 1968, he completed his military term, including Viet Nam, and discharged as Lance Corporal (E-3), receiving a Purple Heart, The Gallantry Cross Color with Palm, along with numerous Marine Medals. Having graduated the University of GA, 1973, with a Bachelor or Science in Education and a Minor in Marketing, James taught High School, but his success came in contracting, insurance, and as a motivational speaking.
Preceded in death by his parents: Mrs. Rilla Ricks, William R. Ricks & Josie P. Ricks, his step-mother & Lynn Ricks Hart, his step-sister. Survived by seven children, Jimmy is the proud father of: Kristy Lee Ricks-Irelan, Joshua William (Angela) Ricks, Lauren Ricks Oakley (Mark), Casey James Ricks (Kayla), Rilla Marie Ricks, Grant Edward Ricks, and Brianna M. Ricks. Jimmy also left (5) siblings: Douglas F. (Marcia) Ricks, Everette, WA; Donald M. Ricks, Las Vegas, NV: Dorothy Ricks Crumley (Lloyd), Valdosta, GA; Doris Ricks-Lankford, Dallas, Texas, and Marilyn G. Ricks, Cairo GA and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service, scheduled @ 11:30 am on Friday, January 12. 2018, at the National Veteran Cemetery: 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL, 32213. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Utah College Educational Fund for Jimmy's youngest daughter, Brianna M. Ricks, his 10 year old daughter, managed my his daughter, Lauren Ricks-Oakley, who can be reached at 708-689-7021.
Inspiration: You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my faith in your Word. (Psalms 119:14). James, a Christian man, leaves his later life as a testimony and a legacy for his children.
