Sandra (Sandy)'s Story
Sandra (Sandy) DeLoach Griffis, 73, of Lake Park, died on Friday, December 29, 2017 after a brief illness. Born in Valdosta to the late Herman & Vivian Morgan DeLoach, she had been a lifelong resident of this area. Sandy graduated from Lowndes High School, having cheered for three years and she won the Miss LHS Pageant in 1962, the year she graduated. Sandy and Jimmy started dating after high school and were married in December of 1964 while he served in the Navy. They recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. In the 1970s Sandy worked at Valdosta State College and also at C&S Bank and First State Bank. Then she joined Lee Office Equipment in the 1970s. She worked there several years as a very personable and successful outside sales agent. Later on, in the 90s she worked as the Director of Admissions for the nursing homes of Pruitt Home Health. Sandy was always the social director for family and friends, from Class Reunions of LHS Classes of 61 and 62 to the Tuesday night gathering at Rodeo in Lake Park. She always made things fun for everyone. Sandy also held a great love for her cats. She was a member of Twin Lakes Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Griffis, of Lake Park; her son Chris Griffis of Crestview, FL; two sisters and a brother in law, Jane & Jeff Key of Milner, and Janet Jackson of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Ceridwyn Griffis and Rowan Griffis, both of Pinetta, FL. Also surviving are her mother in law, Lucy Griffis of Hahira and two brothers in law and sisters in law, Gary & Brenda Griffis of Valdosta and Alan & Jackie Griffis of Lake Park, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sandy is preceded in death by her father in law, Barney Griffis, Jr.
The funeral for Sandy will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Soper will officiate. The burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta Saturday afternoon from 4 until 6 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or the Salvation Army.
