Trent Monroe Thomas, age 51 of Hahira Georgia, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Douglas Georgia, Trent is the son of Marlene Thomas Steptoe and Monroe Thomas (deceased). He is survived by his wife Shonie McKinnon Thomas, daughter Lindsay and son Aaron; his mother and step-father Marlene Thomas Steptoe and Jack Steptoe; his sister Tammy Thomas Fussell (Dr. Timothy Fussell); nephews Jad Fussell (Rachel Fortney Fussell) and Alex Fussell; niece Rachel Fussell; mother-in-law Irene McKinnon and brother-in-law Ray McKinnon and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Monroe Thomas and his father-in-law Bobby McKinnon.
Funeral services were held at the chapel of Sims Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Timothy Fussell and Bro. Quillian Barfield officiating. Soloist Derek Soles, accompanied by Jessica Griffin, offered Beulah Land and I Want to Stroll Over Heaven With You. Amazing Grace was sung by the congregation to close the service. Active pallbearers were Jad Fussell, Alex Fussell, Warren Brown, Donnie Beasley, Billy Beasley, Mickey Thomas, Michael Spivey, and Lonnie Barfield. Honorary pallbearers were Cody Petitjean, Jimbo Scruggs, and Valwood family.
Trent was Valedictorian of Coffee High School's Class of 1984. He earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Southern University. A well respected engineer, Trent was the owner of Georgia Engineering and Testing in Valdosta. An avid hunter and fisherman, Trent was a family man and especially enjoyed being involved with his children's activities at Valwood. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
