Memorial services for Elizabeth Ann Shelton Singletary, 88, of Cairo, GA, are at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 25, 2017, at the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home, Cairo, GA. Dr. Ron McCaskill will officiate. Mrs. Singletary passed away at her home on Friday, September 22, 2017.
Mrs. Singletary was born on February 11, 1929, in Valdosta, GA, to the late Louis Payne Shelton and Louise Washington Farris Shelton. On April 13, 1952, she married Len Durward Singletary. She began her teaching career in Thomas County and then in Grady County. She retired many years ago from the Grady County School System. She was a member of the Moonlight Garden Club, a member and teacher of the Ethel Smith Sunday School Class, a member of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Psi State, Alpha Delta Chapter, and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include: her children, Irven Singletary (Diane), Elizabeth S. Maxwell, Shelton Singletary (Sheila); grandchildren, Ben Maxwell (Amber Reaves), Kelley Ingram (Andrew), Payne Singletary (Kristiana Johnson), Katelynn Singletary, Taylor Singletary (Sam Sholar); great-grandchildren, Foxx Ingram, Savanna Reaves, Carly Reaves, Hunter Reaves; sister-in-law, Sadie Shelton; nephews, Charles Shelton (Julie), John Shelton (Vicky), Louis Shelton; and a host of great-nieces and nephews; companions, Henry Brown and Mary Lou Jackson.
Mrs. Singletary was preceded in death by; her husband, Len Durward Singletary; father, Louis P. Shelton; mother, Louise F. Shelton; step-mother, Nancy Hartsfield Shelton; brother, Luther Shelton; sister-in-law, Connie Converse Shelton.
Memorials may be made in Mrs. Singletary's memory to: First Baptist Church Building Fund, Cairo, Georgia, Lewis Hall Oncology, and American Heart Association.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home immediately following the service.
