Bertha's Story

Text size

Bertha Elease Crawford exemplified the "Virtuous Woman" in aspect of her life. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, an extraordinary grandmother and great grandmother, a dedicated and tireless missionary and community servant, and a source of inspiration for all those who were fortunate to know her. "For her worth is far above rubies."
On Saturday, April 21, 2017 earth's loss became Heaven's gain as she answered the Master's call at 2:15 am. She prayed and was prepared through her life's work to move on to a place of awe, holding God's hand. She has completed her good works and assignments, and her family, friends and the entire community are now reflecting on the joyous and beautiful life she was blessed to have lived.
"The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and no harm, all the days of her life." Elease was born in Lake City, FL and later moved to Valdosta, GA., where she met Johnnie Crawford Sr. Elease and Johnnie were united in marriage and blessed with fourteen Biblically named children. They became faithful members of The Greater Morning Star Baptist Church, where they both served for more than fifty years.
"She makes a tapestry for herself. Her clothing is fine linen and purple." Elease was a very forward thinking woman with great insight, profound wisdom and sage advice. She also possessed a keen sense of fashion, a love for sewing and cooking. Elease established and maintained enduring friendship that would span a lifetime. Her beautiful smile and infectious laugh were the welcome mat to her open heart.
"Her children arise up and call her blessed and praiseth her." She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Crawford Sr.; Two sons; Matthew Crawford and Elijah Crawford. She leaves to honor her memory and emulate her great qualities, Five sons; Johnnie Crawford Jr. (Vera) of San Pablo, CA, James Crawford (Rosa Mae) of Safety Harbor, FL, Levi Crawford of Albany, GA, Joseph Crawford of Largo, FL, and Luke Crawford of Valdosta; Seven daughters; Mary M.
