Rev. Dowell LaFate (D.L.) Sharpe, 84, of Lake Park, died on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Langdale Hospice House following a brief illness. He was born in Cherry Valley, Arkansas on May 10, 1933 to the late Elliot and Bertha Davis Sharpe. Before entering the ministry, Rev. Sharpe was a chartered bus driver and sold cars. For 50 years, Rev. Sharpe spread the gospel to any everyone he came in contact with and continued sharing the message of salvation until the day he went home to be with his Lord. He was a member of Lake Park Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane Sharpe of Lake Park; his daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Rev. Philip Pearson of Perry, Ohio; his grandchildren, Paul Michael Pearson, Paige Kristina Pearson, Philip Matthew Pearson, and Payton Kaye Pearson all of Perry, Ohio; special friends, Marie and Leo Boles of Lake Park; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Geri Steele of Cartersville, Georgia, Willine and Walter Newby of Wynne, Arkansas; a brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Rosemary Sharpe of Nashville, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Ezra Sharpe and a sister, Jewell Sharpe Douglas.
Service for Rev. DL Sharpe will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2017 in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Sandlin and Rev. Philip Pearson officiating. The burial will follow in the Copeland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Monday at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
