Iras Lennie "Koule" DuBard, 67, of Columbia, SC passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2017 at home. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 12pm on Saturday, April 8th at Windsor Lake Church of Christ, 238 Windsor Point Rd, Columbia, SC 29223.
Iras was born to loving parents, Lucille DuBard and John Smith on April 4, 1950 in Valdosta, GA. He graduated in 1968 from Pinevale High School in Valdosta, GA. Iras served honorably in the United States Navy and received the National Defense Service Medal. He was an avid learner and furthered his education at Valdosta State University, and went on to receive his Masters in Social Work from the University of South Carolina.
Iras was passionate about many things including youth development, storytelling, and was a preacher, author and poet. He was an active and proud member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated and was instrumental in establishing both an Alumni Chapter and an Undergraduate line at Valdosta State University in 1982.
Iras is survived by a son, Kevin DuBard of Orlando, FL, daughters Iris Hagan, of Duluth, GA, April Denson, of Valdosta, GA, and Nefertiti DuBard, Mekeda DuBard, and Tiye DuBard all of Columbia, SC; sibling Rosa DuBard of Valdosta, Ga; Granddaughter Jamaya DuBard of Swainsboro, GA and grandsons Kamin DuBard and Khari DuBard both of Orlando, FL, and Jairus Alexander Outley of Columbia, SC.
