Mr. James E. Hewett, 93, of Sparks, formerly of Adel, Georgia, passed away Monday March 13, 2017 at Cook Senior Living Center in Adel. He was born on February 12, 1924 in Cecil, Georgia to his late parents, Jim and Rhoda Ann Brady Hewett. He lived most of his life in Cook County where he was a member of New Life Baptist Church. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was retired from the Civil Service where he was an aircraft maintenance supervisor.
Mr. Hewett is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Johnson Hewett of Sparks; a son and daughter-in-law, Pastors David and Teresa Hewett of Adel; two daughters and sons-in-law: Peggy and Tom Morton of Adel, and Pastor Penny and Duke Gibbs of Brunswick, Georgia; eight grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Taylor. He was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Hewett; and five siblings: W.N. Hewett, Clyde Hewett, Leila Montgomery, Pearl Sirmans and Beatrice Hutchinson.
A memorial service for Mr. Hewett will be conducted on Thursday March 16, 2017 at 11 AM at New Life Baptist Church with Pastors David Hewett and Penny Hewett Gibbs officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Boone Funeral Home to assist needy families with funeral services.
