Mother Jessie's Story

Mother Jessie Lee Lester of 403 Knob Hill Drive, formally of 811 Bethune Street, entered into eternal peace and rest with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born on March 12, 1924 in Tift County, GA to the late Mr. Samuel Askew and Mrs. Mattie Kinchen. She was educated in the Valdosta City Schools System. She was employed at South Georgia Pecan Factory and Holiday Inn.

Mother Lester was a kind, gentle, loving and nourishing soul to all she met. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul and accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church on South Lee Street under the leadership of Pastor Calvin Johnson. Mother Lester later joined Mt. Zion Tridestone Holiness Church of God under the leadership of Overseer Beulah Gunter.

Mother met and later married the love of her life, Elder Willie Frank Lester, Sr. They were married for nearly 68 years, entering into holy matrimony on December 24, 144. To this union five children were their gifts from God.

Mother Lester was called home to receive her reward from the Lord on Saturday, March 25, 2017.

Mother Lester was preceded in death by her loving husband, four brothers, seven sisters, one granddaughter and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

She leaves to cherish her legacy and precious memories her children, Ann McCarty of Greatmills, MD, Erma L. Jenkins (Dea. Harry, Sr.) of Valdosta, GA, James Barnett (Elaine) of Augusta, GA, Elder Willie Lester, Jr., Calvin Lester, Minister Marita L. Williams (Willie B.) and Lafayette Lester all of Valdosta, GA; seventeen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two devoted sisters: Mrs. Nora L. Stafford of Jacksonville, FL and Mrs. Pearline Simmons of Valdosta, GA; one brother-in-law: Nathaniel Arnold of West Palm Beach, FL; her godson and wife: Dea. Aaron & Jean Askew; spiritual daughter: Minister Debra Rutland; Also several loving goddaughters, her devoted Tridestone Church family, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A special thanks to her caretaker, Nicole Oliver, Dr. John Anderson & Staff, Intrepid Healthcare & Dea. Harry Jenkins for being a loyal, dedicated and loving son-in-law and caregiver for Mother Lester. May God continue to bless you!

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Morning Star Baptist Church. Dr. William C. Morgan, pastor, Bishop Robert Taylor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Public viewing will be held on today from 2:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
