Sue Nell Holmes Owens, 86, was born Dec. 7, 1930 in Adel, Ga. to the late Lillie Pearl Moody Holmes and Ollie Holmes.
She was married to the late Samuel J. Owens, her husband for 54 years. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Holmes and one sister, Mrs. Ollie Pearl Holmes Mathis.
Sue Nell professed Christ at an early age and became a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Adel, Ga. She graduated from Cook County Training School in 1948 and graduated from Albany State College in 1952 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She taught public school in Berrien and Cook County School systems for 36 years.
Mrs. Owens was a faithful member of New Bethel Missionary Church, where she held various offices through the years; church announcer, secretary, treasurer, Sunday School teacher and Mother of the Church. She was the organizer of New Bethel's Annual Black History Program.
She departed life on March 28, 2017 at South Georgia Medical Center in Nashville, Ga.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Samuel L. Owens (Sonia) of Valdosta, Michael H. Owens, Nashville, Ga., and Victor B. Owens, San Antonio, Texas; one brother-in-law, Mr. Grover Mathis of Savannah, Ga.; two grandchildren, Tracy L. Owens and Adrian Owens; two great-grandchildren, Ahmir and Ameena; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral service for Sue Nell Owens will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2017 at New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 1102 East Washington St., Nashville, Ga. Burial will be held in Eastview Cemetery, Nashville, Ga. Black and Son Funeral Home, 1211 Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr., Nashville, Ga.
