Barbara Jean Carter Bailey, daughter of the late Arletha Miller and Julius Carter, was born on May 21, 1941 in Lowndes County, Georgia. She peacefully departed this life on March 27, 2023 in Charlotte, NC.
She attended the public schools of Lowndes County and graduated from Mt. Zion High School. She later earned her bachelor's degree in Education from Albany State University. In 1965, she married Rev. Dr. Thomas Robinson Bailey, who preceded her in death in 2009.
She was an educator in the Bibb County and New Hanover County school systems before retiring from the Ware County school system in Waycross, GA.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Jacobium Muhammad, Roderick Bailey, Waymon Bailey, and Derrick Bailey. She was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Bailey, in 1996.
Funeral services will be provided by Godfrey Funeral Home on Saturday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Vienna AME Church in Valdosta, GA.
