Retired Major USMC Bernard Kenton Severin, 87
Of Hahira, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at the Fellowship Home at Brookside. He was born on November 14, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, to the late Bernard Severin and Mae Meyer Severin.
Major Severin proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 26 years, retiring with the rank of Major. Throughout his distinguished career, he served in various roles, including as a communications officer, and took on numerous other responsibilities that showcased his versatility and dedication. His service to his nation was marked by integrity, commitment, and honor.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Major Severin moved to Valdosta, Georgia, in 1992, following his years in Yuma, Arizona. In Valdosta, he became an active member of the Kiwanis Club, where he contributed to his community for many years.
Outside of his military and civic engagements, Major Severin had a deep passion for woodworking and welding. His skill and craftsmanship in this art were widely admired by those who knew him, and he enjoyed creating pieces that reflected both his creativity and his meticulous attention to detail.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Claudia Horne Severin; his son, Barney Severin, and 3 brothers: Keith Severin, Jim Severin and Kenneth Severin.

His sons, Ben Severin (Melissa) of Ramona, California, and Andy Severin (Margaret) of Hahira, Georgia; granddaughters, Ashley McMillan (Rich) of Naylor, Georgia, and Madison Staples (Ben) of Valley Center, California; his brother, Kaylor Severin of Lampasas, Texas; three great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
