Denver, North Carolina - Betty Joyce Stephenson Lockey (BJ) made one last move to her heavenly home on April 28, 2025. She was born on May 15, 1941 in Valdosta, Ga., the daughter of the late Willard Cleveland Stephenson Sr. and Beulah McLeod Stephenson. She was a member of Mountain Island Church of Christ.
BJ, a graduate of Valdosta State, was a retired school teacher and realtor. She loved basketball and was Co-Captain of the runner up state team of 1959. She became an avid Duke Basketball Fan and as a teacher often played basketball in high heels with the 6th grade team. She also loved fishing.
BJ was a loving wife of 58 years. She is survived by her husband, LTC Donald V. Lockey, (USA Ret.), son Don Jr. and his wife, Jana Lockey of Annapolis, Md., son Steve and his wife, McKenzie Lockey of Denver, NC., daughter Kelly Wood and her husband, Tim of Denver, NC., grandchildren Anna Grace, Stephenson, Nickolas, Westly, Kristian, Lucas, Krystof and Jacob; sisters Diane Fiveash, Marcia Wilson and her husband BJ Wilson of Valdosta, Ga.; brothers Tommy Stephenson and his wife, Joyce of Albany, Ga., John Stephenson; sister-in-law Laura Stephenson both of Valdosta, Ga.
Besides her parents, BJ was preceded in death by her granddaughter Olivia Lockey; brother Buddy Stephenson; brother-in-law Graham Fiveash; sister-in-law, Lisa Stephenson.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mountain Island Church of Christ 4205 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Rd. Charlotte, NC. 28216. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM at Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd. Salisbury, NC 28144.
