Harry James Blasingame
Harry James Blasingame, 75, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, after a sudden illness. Born in Baxley to the late Harry Eugene & Nora Dell Thompson Blasingame on February 13, 1944. Harry grew up in Douglas and graduated from Coffee County High School. After high school, he attended South Georgia College before moving to Valdosta. Here in Valdosta he graduated from Valdosta Technical School (Now Wiregrass Technical College) with a degree in Electronics. At Val Tech, Harry met the former Barbara Jefferson, while campaigning for class president. They started dating and were married in June of 1966 and would have celebrated 54 years of marriage in June. He then joined the U.S. Navy in 1968 and served on the USS John F. Kennedy and the USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt, both aircraft carriers, as an Electronics Technician. After his stint in the Navy, he soon returned to Valdosta to begin teaching Electronics at Lowndes High School. Harry taught at Lowndes for 29 years until his retirement in 2000. He then continued to work for 20 more years at Rutland Low Voltage until the current time. Harry has been a musician all of his life, playing the guitar and singing in several bands to include 'The Jaguars' and 'Salt & Pepper'. He continued to play the guitar at his church Cherry Creek Baptist Church. Harry was an avid golfer, and he loved playing the Stone Creek course with his grandkids and friends.
Harry is survived by his wife, Barbara Jefferson Blasingame of Valdosta, his son, Richard Blasingame of Marietta; his daughter and son in law, Tiffany and Rev. Ed Falgout of Cobden, IL; three grandsons, Hunter, Caleb & Luke Falgout and a granddaughter, Hannah Falgout, all of Cobden, Ill. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law, Troy and Carolyn Blasingame of Douglas, his stepmother Erin Blasingame of Hiawassee, two stepbrothers and two stepsisters and a niece, Bethany Dollar of Valdosta and several other nieces and nephews.
The funeral for Mr. Blasingame will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday February 14, 2020 at Cherry Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Glen Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. Worked at LHS with Harry. He was a easy going person & a nice man. I'm sure he will be missed by his family. Good man. Bobbie & family I am so sorry. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️😘
