He shortly thereafter obtained his building contractor's license in Tallahassee,Florida. (one of the few licensed building contractors in Jasper FL at the time) Applying his carpentry skills, education, training, and entrepreneurial vision, he founded Lee & Lee Construction, a family run business which contributed to numerous updated housing in the community, exemplified genuine entrepreneurship, and provided employment to several people throughout the area. History of Lee's Place

Built and established by James in 1967, Lee's Place began as a family-run gathering spot and quickly became a cornerstone of Jasper's social life. In the 1970s, the venue welcomed locals with a jukebox, pool table, card room, and a nurturing sense of belonging. In 1980, James Lee faced a major back surgery and recovery that proved to be a defining moment in his life. Despite the physical and emotional challenges, his resilience and unwavering determination not only fueled his recovery but also inspired him to reimagine the future of Lee's Place. The innovation and expansion that followed included transportation services for out-of-town guests, a larger dance floor, professional DJs, and expanded advertising efforts. These enhancements turned Lee's Place into a vibrant nightclub and lounge, attracting a vast number of visitors across North Florida and South Georgia, for decades. This multi-purpose facility was also the setting for many family gatherings, especially the Lee Family Reunion, where countless cherished memories were made.

James Lee's legacy lives on through his family, the businesses he built, and the unforgettable moments created at Lee's Place, which still stands today. A significant aspect of his enduring impact can also still be seen in the homes and buildings that stand throughout North Florida and South Georgia today.
