Nolan McLaine Obituary

Mr. Leslie Nolan McLaine, 77, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019, at the Langdale Hospice House, Valdosta, GA, following an extended illness.

Mr. McLaine was born September 7, 1941, in Homerville, GA, to the late James Louie McLaine and Eva Doris Griffis McLaine. He graduated from Clinch County High School, where he was awarded most valuable player in basketball. He joined the U.S. Air Force after graduation and was stationed in Texas, California and Pakistan. After serving his country he returned home to work in various positions until he met his wife of 54 years and started a reforestation business. When he retired from that he opened Westside Auto and Truck Parts. In the meantime he loved to travel and loved the Rocky Mountains and western states. He and his wife built a cabin in Silverton, CO and opened the "Old Hundred Mine Tour" and would go out in the summer to open it for tourists. He was a member of the New Pine Grove Church past member of the Lions Club, Shriners and coached Rec. League football when he was younger. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Doris Stiles and Cecil Ann Steedley and two brothers: J. L. McLaine and Bobby McLaine.

Survivors are his wife: Brenda Burnett McLaine, Homerville: one daughter and son-in-law: Alison & Dr. Shannon Smith, Homerville; one son and daughter-in-law: Jason & Wendy McLaine, Homerville; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Jimmy & Martha McLaine and Kenton & June McLaine, all of Homerville; one half brother and sister-in-law: Ricky & Pam Whittington, Waynesville, GA; six grandchildren: Grace McLaine, Rebecca McLaine, Tanner McLaine, Kendell Smith, Julia Smith and Ike Smith; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorial services for Mr. McLaine will be held Saturday, February 2, 2019 at eleven o'clock at the New Pine Grove Church.

Interment will be in the New Pine Grove Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 1, 2019, from 6 till 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
