Peter J. Allen, beloved teacher and coach, passed away on on Sunday, March 23rd at age 77. Peter was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1947, raised in New England and was a rabid fan of Boston sports. He loved the Celtics, Bruins and the Red Sox.

Peter served in Vietnam and after college began a career in education. He coached and taught at schools up and down the east coast, including Christ School in Asheville NC, the Benjamin School in Palm Beach FL, and Brookwood School in Thomasville, GA.

He came to Valwood in 1998 as an English teacher, the head boys basketball coach and an assistant football coach. He was at Valwood for 22 years until retiring in 2020. He was a well respected

and successful coach and was an even better English teacher and department head, who also served as Dean of the upper school. Coach Allen was selected as the Star Teacher a record nine times in addition to many other honors in both academics and athletics.

He was a remarkable educator, mentor, and friend. It is difficult to find the words to express the depth of this loss to the Valwood family, but even in our grief, we celebrate the incredible life and legacy of a teacher and coach who touched so many hearts.

Coach Allen was more than just a teacher, he was a source of wisdom, and an unwavering supporter of every student who walked through his classroom doors. His passion for teaching was evident in every lesson, every word of encouragement, and every moment he spent ensuring that each student felt seen, heard, and valued. Beyond the classroom, Coach Allen mentored athletes on the football field and the basketball court.

Coach Allen's spirit will forever be a part of Valwood school, carried in the hearts of every life he touched. His lessons will continue to guide us, and his impact will never fade.

He is survived by his wife Judy of Jupiter, FL, son Corey of Annapolis, MD, and daughter Jessica of Boston, MA. He loved and was very proud of his grandchildren, Corey's children Grace and Craig, and Jess's children Michael, Matthew and Jameson
