Mrs. Virginia Godwin, 82, of Valdosta, Georgia formerly of Lenox, Georgia, passed away on January13, 2025 at the Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta.

Mrs. Godwin was born on July 5, 1942 in Cook County to the late Thomas Leon Rutland and the late Lena Sumner Rutland. She lived most of her life in Cook County and the past eight years in Valdosta. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was a retired bookkeeper with the Tift County Department of Family and Children Services.

Mrs. Godwin is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Abbie and Jeff Barfield of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Jenna Barfield and Luke Barfield, both of Valdosta; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Thomas C. "Hodie" and Linda Rutland, Terrell H. "Curley" and Debbie Rutland, and brother-in-law, Royce Boone, all of Lenox, Georgia; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Owen "Jay" Godwin, and two sisters, Anne Rutland and Patsy R. Boone.

A graveside service will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at the Lakeview Baptist Church Cemetery near Lenox, Georgia with Rev. Brad Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening, January 14, 2025 at Boone Funeral Home; 1804 S. Hutchinson Ave.; Adel, Georgia. Condolences may be expressed online at www.boonefunerals.com.
