Fayetteville, NC - Dr Walter G Brannen 86 ,passed away peacefully on September 26,2025.

He is preceded in death by his wife Nancy Jane Brannen and parents, Ola Mae and Walter Hamilton Brannen.

Dr Brannen is deeply morned by his surviving wife, Sandy Brannen, his sister Betsy Griffen, brothers, Ray and Royce Brannen. His children, Jane Brannen, Mary Wardle, Ann Waters, John Brannen (Linsey) and David Brannen. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, James (Jennifer) Justin and Joshua Hewett, Michael Wardle, Hayley Starling (Jordan), Daniel Pittman (MariaStar) ,Sesily, Clair and Hollis Brannen. Also missing him are his great grandchildren, Atlas and August Starling, and Magnolia Pittman.

For over 50 years he was an Associate Professor of Biology at Valdosta State University, and Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville, NC.

Dr Brannen enjoyed making, artistic knives by forge and fire. He was quit the artist turning odd pieces of metal into beautiful knives. He enjoyed gardening with his wife Sandy, together they grew small vegetables and beautiful flowers. Their yard is a sight to behold. He loved sitting on the porch with his dogs Rex and Roxy looking over the Cape Fear River.

Dr Brannen will be remembered ,standing tall and wearing his black Stetson hat, by his family, friends, and many students who's lives he touched.
